The rosés of Maremma, on the southern shores of Tuscany, are proving to be a breath of fresh air with their own, highly individual pink wines.
The combination of ripe fruit and saline minerality appears to be the defining character of these wines, found within a range of styles originating from a complex combination of soils and varieties. Vineyards can be found from the sandy seashore to the higher, volcanic slopes further inland. A range of varieties are used
including Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Grenache, Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah.
Producers have grouped together in an association called Rosae Maris, and together they are working to present their wines and to illustrate the characteristics of makes the rosés of Maremma individual (…)
